HOLCOMBE SECOND IN PONTREMOLI, HERRERA IMPROVES AGAIN

Last weekend, Sunday 14 April, the fourth round of the Enduro Absolutes of Italy was held in Pontremoli in the province of Massa Carrara.

The Beta Factory Enduro Team presented itself with the World Champion Steve Holcombe and the Chilean rider Benjamin Herrera.

The Tuscan weekend started from Saturday evening with the SuperTest, usually a WEC prerogative, designed by the Pontremoli MotoClub and located a close the town centre. The best of ours was Steve Holcombe (2’01.50) who was the second fastest rider of the special.

On Saturday night a heavy thunderstorm made the three special tests to the limit of practicability, making even the ground muddy and slippery. Despite the bad weather conditions, our two riders stood out both in the Foreigners class and in the Overall.

Steve Holcombe, at the end of the day of competition, climbed to the second step of the podium both in the Foreigners class and in the prestigious Overall. Our English rider made an excellent race, recording three best absolute times in the twelve special tests disputed, committing however some that cost him the victory.

Anyway, Steve Holcombe is still the leader of the Overall class with 74 points distancing the second by 15 and the third by 29.

Good performance also for Benjamin Herrera who collected a sixth place in the Foreigners class and an honourable tenth place in the Overall. Our Chilean rider also recorded the absolute best time in the fourth Extreme Test and throughout the day he showed a great feeling with the bike.

Besides the official ones, a lot of Betas reached the podium. Team Beta Boano’s riders conquered: third position in Foreigners and Overall class with Brad Freeman, Deny Philippaerts won the 300 and Matteo Pavoni and Igor Brunengo ended 1st and 3rd in the Youth class.

250 class totally dominated thanks to Gianluca Martini, Niccolò Mori and Giorgio Viglino.

The Beta Factory Enduro Team will move to the Iberian peninsula for the double world round scheduled for Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 May at Valpacos for the GP of Portugal while the following weekend will take place the Spanish GP in Santiago de Compostela.

STEVE HOLCOMBE

"I am happy about the result but sorry for not winning the race. Unfortunately, I could not find the right feeling in the Enduro Test and some mistakes did not allow me to fight for the victory. But the races are like that, sometimes you win and sometimes you don’t ".

BENJAMIN HERRERA

“First of all I am happy with the excellent feeling that I am establishing with the motorcycle, unfortunately the too muddy terrain of the Cross Test has compromised a better outcome of my race but I am extremely happy with the times obtained especially in the Extreme Test”.
