World Enduro Championship 2018 - Portugal

The Motoclub Escuderia Castelo Branco hosted the FIM Enduro GP World Championship in the characteristic town of Castelo Branco in Portugal for the second year in a row. Few changes made by the organizers compared to the last edition with the paddock, the Enduro Test and Cross Test located in the same place of the last season. Despite the great dust that characterized the entire race weekend, the show was not lacking thanks to the thick presence of the public on Friday evening during the Super Test in which our rider Christophe Charlier obtained the third best overall time.

The weekend has been extremely positive for Beta riders who conquered three of the four categories on Sunday. Steve Holcombe (Beta Factory Team) dominated the E3, Brad Freeman (Team Beta Boano) won the E1 and Matteo Cavallo (Team Beta Boano) jumped up on the first step on both race days in the Enduro Junior, even though the spectacular fall on Saturday. Furthermore, Steve Holcombe and Brad Freeman conquered the second place on Day One in the E3 and E1.

Steve Holcombe arrived in Portugal with some physical problem after a bad crash in the previous GP at Santiago de Compostela in Spain. The British ran the Day One without pushing too much on the accelerator. The following day instead Steve Holcombe immediately established an high pace and for almost the entire race he was in command of the Enduro GP but had to surrender to the last special and settle for the second place overall. In the provisional classification Steve occupies now the first position in the E3 class and the third place in the Enduro GP.

Weekend of highs and lows for Christophe Charlier. The rider did not conquer the podium on Day One and on Sunday he ran a good race remaining in contact with the first in the Enduro GP and getting the fourth place in the E2 class.

“On Saturday I made too many mistakes and I did not trust to push very hard, but on Sunday I immediately found a good rhythm and I tried to get the maximum. Unfortunately, I lost the first place to the last special but surely we will make it to Estonia.”

“Even in this GP I made some steps forward regarding the feeling with my bike. I’m partly happy with the times obtained in the special tests but now I have to be able to conquer a world podium that is in my reach.”
